V set History
V sets are Intercity trains that were delivered between 1970-1989.
The first batch of cars were delivered in 1970 with the first run in 1969 as F111. The car codes were DCF, DDC, DTF & DTC. They were not great. There were failures in the Air-conditioning and electricity power. They ran as U Sets. DCF 8004 was the first scrapped.
In 1977 DCMs and DCTs were introduced with many newer features from the 1970 cars. In the 1990s DCM 8032-8036 became DTM 8032-8036 and DCT 9031-9036 became DTD 9031-9036.
In 1982 DIM & DIT cars were introduced. No more Driving Trailers were introduced. The Blue Goose Livery last applied on the DIM cars.
Thyristor Chopper Control system found in Tangaras & C sets were introduced in the DJM and the last of the DIT cars in 1985. The DJM cars had the Candy Livery applied to them instead of the Blue Goose.
Comeng made its last order of V sets in 1989. DKM & DKT cars were introduced. The original order was proposed to 50 cars but due to change in Government it was limited to 14 cars. Like the DJM cars the DKM, DKT cars had the chopper system installed. By this time Tangaras were being introduced. DKM & DKT cars have to be coupled together with a DIT & DJM (DKM, DKT, DIT, DJM) except for V71(DKM, DKT, DKT, DKM).
In 1990 DJM 8101 had its Candy Livery changed to the CityRail Livery(as did C3596) to commemorate 20 years of V set services to Gosford. In 2009 DJM 8101 had its livery changed to the Regular Intercity Livery.
In 2005 the 1970 cars that were converted in 1982 were withdrawn. DMT 9204 was blown up by the army (possibly) with a withdrawn STA Bus at Holdsworthy.
There have been many cars scrapped due to accidents.
The List is here:
DCF 8004 (1976)
DCM 8027 Rebuilt due to accident with DK car.
DJM 8107
DCM 8030
DIM 8067 became DIM 8020
DCT 9034 became DET 9216
DIM 8037, 8048 & 8060
DIM 8020 was moved out of Petersham Training school replaced with C3840 & T4058.
DIM 8065 awaits repairs due to an accident at Flemington MC.
In February 4th a V set derailed at Linden (Lindon to Channel ten) because of a landslide.
The V sets are expected to begin being withdrawn in 2021 (about 11 years from 2010). They have comfortable seats and travel to areas to Newcastle, Kiama, Port Kembla & Lithgow.
Anyway thats all I know of V Sets.
